DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: To provide the opportunity for singers to develop their vocal and musical skills in a small ensemble setting through the performance of a wide range of a capella music

Voice type: SATB

Choir performs: A capella repertoire

Year Choir formed: 1983

No. of Singing Members - Currently: 10 Desired: 16

Musical Repertoire: Renaissance to contemporary classical music, with a particular interest in Australian choral music, folk music, spirituals, examples of jazz and popular song

Musical Director: Barbara Chalmer

No. of years in current post: since 1999

Previous musical experience: BMus, Grad Dip Mus, M Ed; teaching experience at University and secondary schools over 40 years, choral experience in a range of large and small ensembles both as singer and conductor, vocal and piano teacher

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: Occasional collaboration with other choirs and guest artists at public concerts

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: Yes - Singers initially sing with the choir at several rehearsals to see if there is a good fit; the singer may also be asked to prepare a piece of music being worked on by the choir and sing their part in a small ensemble of choir members; the Director will then privately inform the singer if they have been accepted for choir membership

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes Concerts: Yes

Membership Fees: $280 p.a. ($168 p.a. Conc.) subscription, or $78 per term, and a $50 refundable music bond

Ability to read music: Essential

Sight-reading ability: Desirable
